Lots and lots of dogs! This was this weeks project and it was really fun! I experimented with lots of different kinds of dog characters and rediscovered drawing in pencil! I really like the way the pencil line is all smudgy - I think it makes the dogs look more cuddly than they would if they were inked. Hurrah for happy accidents! I think I might try reworking my cat book using pencil outlines just to see how it looks....

These are two double page spreads from my new children's book "Oscar the Dancing Cat", about a cat who likes to dance. This story is the direct result of a lethal combination of strictly come dancing and too much tea.
Hello! Ok, some part of me doesn't seem to understand how this blog thing works! I know I should upload my work as I make it but instead what I like to do is abandon my blog for ages, make lots of work and then upload it all at once! I think it makes me feel very productive! Anyway this is one of those uploading times and I'm going to stick up all my latest pictures for your enjoyment!
This first picture is Part One of a four part story about a boy who falls into a pond.

Last night I went to the launch of a book by Katie Treggiden who created the blog "Confessions of a Design Geek". The book is full of interviews by creatives of all kinds and it includes one with me! To make things even better the book was reviewed on the Design Week blog and they used one of my images!
Here is another idea for a card that I entered into the competition. I really love drawing penguins!
These are some penguins I drew as greetings cards for a competition...

...and because I had so many ideas for colours here are some more!

It has been a while since I last added anything but I am finally getting around to putting up the promised pictures of my show! Here they are in their full glory. Other than my end of year show I exhibited my work at New Designers and New Blood in London. It was very exciting and I am still recovering now! Anyhow now that that is all over and I have got myself set up with my very beautiful new apple mac,  expect updates of new work shortly!

Monday 20 June 2011

Hello I'm back! I haven't uploaded anything lately, as the past few weeks have been used up with finishing up degree stuff! We went to New York (which was amazing) and set up our final show (which was stressful) and tomorro we find out our final grades... I'll be putting up some pictures of what my show looks like in the next couple of days but for now here is a poster i just finished for Pixel 8, which is a film festival being held by 3rd year Falmouth film students. This image was for a short film called "The Little Things."

Saturday 14 May 2011

Ok thats it, this is the last picture! Chelsea gardens are massive and full of massive old glass houses filled up with flowers and tropical plants. I wanted the flowers in my poster to resemble fireworks exploding out of the ground.
Ok well i was at it i thought i'd upload this again! I did some fiddling and managed to lighten up a bit and i think it looks much better now.
I did this picture while waiting for the printer to print out my work - thats how long it took! It took about 1 hour to print each picture and there were a lot of pictures!
This is a cover i've been working on for a while and its finally finished!! there's nothing like a crazily stressful deadline to make you get things done! I originally started working on this for the Penguin Design Award whose deadline was in the middle of the easter holidays. Its a pretty hard book to illustrate as every idea i had for it seemed to have already been done by LOTS of other people but i'm pretty pleased with how it came out.

The last couple of weeks have been horribly stressful trying to get everything ready for New york but its all finally done! I'm in the midst of packing up my stuff to take with me and i'll quickly upload all my most recent work!

Wednesday 11 May 2011

Finished my next picture! I really enjoyed drawing the animals, it made such a change from drawing people all the time! Also hand rendered text is a new thing for me but was really fun to try:) Now off for a celebratory cup of tea and a brownie.

Also just an added note about that picture: thats not actually how it looks on photoshop! blogspot has done something weird and made it all dark and gloomy when infact its really bright.. Just imagine that the greens are grass greens rather than sludge colour and thats about right.
This is the last Journey to the Riversea picture. I don't think its quite finished yet. I was spending ages fiddling around with the colour and it wasn't making much of a difference so now I'm just going to leave it for a bit and get on with something else!

Friday 6 May 2011

These are internal images for a nice book called "Journey to the Riversea" about a girl who goes and lives in the rainforest. They still need some work and i am planning a third one to go with them plus a cover. Hopefully i'll finish them over the weekend!

Thursday 5 May 2011

Every year Falmouth publishes a book full of graduates work which is called the Quotes book. This is my picture which illustrates "Plenty more fish in the sea"! This took me forever so i feel quite attatched to it, also it marks the moment that i finally understood photoshop!

... and here's the rest!

The first two pictures for my Hide and Seek childrens book.

I'm back!

Hello its been ages! i have proved myself to be a completely useless blogger over the last few months but, as of today, i'm turning over a new leaf! Me and my classmates are headed off to NewYork next week with our portfolios so i'm going to be finishing off a lot of pictures and i'll upload them as i go...

new things

Here are a couple of different projects i have been working on since september. This first project was three images to illustrate "The Outsider" by Albert Camus. I did this project over the christmas holidays and had a lot of fun learning how to use quink ink. I spent more time finalising this project than i have with any of the others so far as i was trying to create a feeling of the oppresive heat of Algiers (where the story is set).

Hello!

Hello! Here is the first post of my new (ish) blog! The plan is that i will update this blog with work as i make it so that i can record my working process and all the sketches and doodles that dont make it into my portfolio! (so far there is a lot) I am half way through the final year of my degree so i have quite a backlog of work which i will put up just to add a bit of colour before i add new stuff, but most of it will be on my website anyway so apologies if you've allready seen it!
